Battle of the Bands 2013 - The Final. The Fifty Shilling Tailors win!
What a fantastic night, Okehampton's Simmons Park came alive with music and fun times. Although the weather tried to spoil things, once the afternoon rain stopped everything dried quickly and we had a great evening.
The four Battle of the Bands 2013 finalists took to the stage and played their hearts out to entertain the ever growing and expectant crowd. Every band brought something different to the party tonight and every band deserved to win, they were amazing.
First of the bands to take to the stage was 3's A CroWd from Tavistock. This acoustic threesome played well known hits with their own fun and humorous twist. Great fun and really helped bring the crowd into the party spirit, I particularly enjoyed the Master of Puppets intro!
Then we had The Fifty Shilling Tailors from Plymouth, these guys were the wild card entry. Their nineties indie sound and attitude made for a great set, and they got a great reaction from the crowd.
Okehampton band, DownFall were next. These four, hard rocking, lads opened their set with their trademark come on intro performed by their 14 year old drummer. Their energetic, hard rock set really woke the crowd and despite some power issues they still put on a great show.
Final band of the night was Ten Zero One from Tavistock. Not the first time Ten Zero One have taken to the Party in the Park stage, they were also here in 2011. They have certainly matured, both musically and physically! They brought their energetic rock sound to the crowd, who certainly enjoyed it.
So, as always the judges had to make a tough decision, everyone brought something different and the scores ebbed and flowed. But a winner was chosen, congratulations go to The Fifty Shilling Tailors. They win the trophy and an EP recording package with Alive Music Studios.
DownFall won a slot at Chagstock 2014, Ten Zero One won a stage backdrop courtesy of Southwest Highways Signs and 3's A Crowd won a £100 shop voucher with Project Music.
We also gave out a few extra prizes; The musician of the night prize courtesy of Rock Hens Coop went to Mack, the drummer from DownFall. Jack from 3's A CroWd won the performer of the night prize, a skateboard courtesy of Skatewarehouse. And finally Shaun from 3's A Crowd also won a skateboard for madcap, lunatic of the night.
To top off the night The Bohemians took to the stage, the crowd had grown to one of the largest we've ever seen and were more than ready for a set of Queen hits performed to perfection. They were fantastic!
