BotB & Party in the Park 2011
At the start we said we wanted to do something really special, thanks to some great bands, some great people and some fantastic support we think we did.
On Saturday 13th August Simmons Park came alive and the Okehampton Battle of the Bands came of age. The weather held and the crowds thronged to be entertained by everything that the party had to offer.
All the bands playing at the BotB final played brilliantly so a massive thank-you to First Requiem, Ten ZERO One, Backbench Rebellion and The Monkey Gland Blues Band.
In a really tight competition The Monkey Gland Blues Band eventually emerged victorious and they will be playing at Chagstock Festival in 2012.
The Monkey Gland Blues Band may claim the crown of BotB's oldest competitors but years of cumulative experience oozed from the very soul of every rough and ready blues lick. Hats, harmonicas and even the gleam of a gold tooth from drummer Bert, (who could forget that certain gorilla advert?). An all original set of local blues delivered with devil may care crowd pleasing confidence. The audience loved "Like the blues man do" and these blues men certainly did.
In between bands the audience was amazed by the outrageous trials riding skills of elite trials rider Andrei Burton plus Oke FreeRiders and Dance Fusion. On top of that we had our annual air guitar competion.
Battle of the Bands 2011 was drawn to a close by Ultimate Madness. A real crowd pleaser, performing all the great Madness tracks from One Step Beyond to House of Fun. The Party in the Park was exactly what is set out to be - one big community party, everybody dancing, singing and cheering.
To close, the Battle of the Bands Committee would like to Steven's Estate Agents and the Plymouth Inn, the main sponsors for this year and also all off the businesses and organisations in Okehampton that have also given their support.
See you all next year and we'll do it all again.
